What is a vodcast or video podcast?

“Did you know your favorite podcast might have a video version? That’s called a vodcast!”

What Is a Vodcast—and Why It Matters in a Multilingual World?

In today’s fast-evolving digital landscape, content is no longer just about what we say, but how we share it. Enter the vodcast—a blend of “video” and “podcast”—which has become a powerful tool for connection, storytelling, and visibility.

But what exactly is a vodcast?

A vodcast, or video podcast, is an audio podcast accompanied by video. Think of your favorite podcast—but now you can also watch the host and guests speak, see graphics or slides, and engage more deeply through visual storytelling. Vodcasts are typically distributed on platforms like YouTube, Spotify Video, or directly embedded into websites and social channels.

Why Are Vodcasts Relevant to Translators, Interpreters, and Language Professionals?
As someone who works with language, voice, and meaning every day, I’ve found vodcasts to be a unique way to:

Showcase tone, expressions, and non-verbal communication.

Reach multilingual and multicultural audiences by adding subtitles or translated versions.

Promote trust and credibility through visual presence.

Educate and inform—especially when dealing with specialized terminology or technical concepts in translation or interpretation.

My Experience with Vodcasting
In 2020 Attitudeable podcast started with audio. But as the need for visual connection grew—especially when discussing sensitive topics like education, inclusion, or AI in translation, we began experimenting with video episodes. Our guests’ expressions, energy, and authenticity appeared at the forefront.

Whether I’m interviewing a health expert or talking about translation standards like ISO 17100, video adds a human layer that text and audio alone sometimes can’t deliver.

Should You Start a Vodcast?
If you’re a language professional, communicator, or entrepreneur trying to connect with a global audience, consider adding a video layer to your podcast. It doesn’t have to be high-budget—authenticity beats perfection.

A vodcast helps your audience:

  • See your passion.
  • Understand your message across languages.
  • Feel connected beyond words.
